On my last holiday to Tokyo I sat next to Hiroko Aoki on the train to Kyoto. We shared beer and some sushi (it was her 70th birthday after all), and then she went into her bag and pulled out a little tissue holder. 'Oh that's cute!' I said. 'I made it!' she said, with a smile. 'You make things? So do I!' I replied.
